As the 2021-2022 school year here at San Juan High School comes to a close, we want to take a look back at the year and reflect on how people feel about their next chapter. This was our first full year in-person in three years and it started out with a bang when girls volleyball won their first game of the season on August 20th.
In September, AP Psychology took care of some egg babies while learning about child development. This year was her first year teaching AP Psychology for Ms. Sanchez and it seems to have been a great one! “…with the bumpy road we all started off on, I think a lot was learned…we like transcended just content and [gained] more like application in real life,” said Sanchez when asked about how AP Psych went this year.
In October, Sophomores and Juniors took the PSAT and got to participate in some school spirit, dressing up for decade day, all in a week’s work!
In December, the Latino Dreams club learned how to make Flores! If you are interested in joining, it is Wednesdays at lunch in Room G2. Later in the month, students gathered in the Spartan circle to do the cupid shuffle for a fun Friday lunch! Vice Principal, Ms. Hill said, “…they played the cupid shuffle and all these people from…campus started jumping in and dancing…that was just so much fun,” when asked about her favorite memory from the school year.
In February, Ms. Macias celebrated the academic success of her IM1 students with “cereal day!” Students were very excited by this and it highlights the effort that our teachers put into education and socialization at San Juan High. San Juan Media pulled off three successful live streamed basketball games this month as the varsity team made it into playoffs for the first time in years.
In March, the math department celebrated Pi Day in Upper D Hallway with circle-shaped treats during lunchtime! Towards the end of the month, LGBTQ+ club hosted a movie night in the auditorium. It was a massive success and our sources say they will be hosting a talent show next school year!
This month, in May, we celebrated at Open House with dinner provided by culinary and a special performance by San Juan’s band.
We could not cover all of the tremendous successes of this school year in one article but we are happy to be able to look back at the year and I personally can not wait until next school year!
“Summer cannot get here fast enough,“ says Mrs. Durkee.
