On Halloween weekend of 2022, San Juan High School Drama Club left the crowd speechless with their performance of “The Spies Like Us.” This twisted audience interactive murder mystery will go down in San Juan’s history forever.

On Wednesday the 26th, before opening night, Skycrest elementary school fifth graders attended a sneak peek preview of the show on a field trip. Kids had the chance to see what performing arts opportunities were available in high school for their future and had a blast interacting in a captivating show. Several students even came back to see the show again!

The show was made possible by a former San Juan High school parent, Mrs. Karen Bare. Her passion for directing and performing arts and her drive to accomplish things are sensational. In August of the 2022-2023 school year, Mrs. Bare took the script of “The Spies Like Us” and got to work. She held Auditions on September 1st, and two short months later, we were performing. This accomplishment came with hours upon hours of rehearsal day after day, but in the end, it was worth it.

The band/orchestra, conducted by Mr. Lauder, featured some spooky Halloween-inspired songs during intermission. The band also assisted in providing musical sound effects during the show.

One of the following most incredible feet accomplished at this event was the construction of the first “ever Haunted Hallway.” It was not met with the most participants, but the few that entered left raving reviews. The constructing CTE pathway at San Juan helped tremendously in building this, and we hope to bring a “haunted house” here annually in the future!

Keep your eyes peeled for the Drama Club’s spring performance!
